I don’t know how long this other site will be maintained.  It is a personal aol website.

No reason to loose the existing post.  I have removed the email addresses as the VAST majority bounce.  Besides, I don’t like to list peoples email address in clear text anyway.  It’s sorta rude and invites spam.  :)

Let’s all pitch in and help to get this site off the ground! I intend to help with years 1981-84… but I’m sure that Craig needs lots more help. As for stories… I sure do miss climbing the Jebels that were on the west side of town. I lived in one of those ridiculous triple-wide trailers out there in no-mans land, and the jebels were mine and Becky Hammock’s (as well as dozens of other kids, I’m sure) playground. I also heard stories of the “older” kids (5th and 6th graders) going off behind the “747″ to make out… but I was too young and innocent for that :) I don’t know ’bout y’all, but I have dreams about the desert, and the life in UDH all the time. The (then new) dining hall, with it’s big square where we celebrated everything from Halloween, to the 50th Anniversary of ARAMCO (did any of you write and sing songs for that one? I especially remember a song that some of the boys did to the tune of “The Facts of Life”)…. I have a lot more memories, and I remember a lot of your names and faces, and would love to hear from ANY of you that remember me or my sister Kaitlin! Take care, –keri

Did any of you have a teacher named Mr. Guillot? He was the middle school English teacher. He also taught my Algebra class. He was a hard teacher and at the time I didn’t really like him. Over time though I found out how much I actually learned from him. I regret to say that a few years ago Raymond Guillot died of a heart attack. If Vicki Guillot ever stumbles over this site I would like to offer you my condolences. He was the best teacher I ever had.

What a flashback to read everyones comments. The Jebels and the sand dunes around Udhailiyah and Abqaiq were the best memories of life in Saudi. I think about all the good times we had together growing up in a small isolated oasis in the middle of nowhere. The trips on the bus to the old Hofuf Sug,fort and the camel market. I hope that more of the old gang get online and keep in touch. I have a ton of great photos of the camp taken from a PHI helicopter hiding in my attic that I hope to get to you soon. If you remember me or the rest of my siblings Phil, Dina and Derrick please keep in touch. Thanks for the great memories.

I grew up in Saudi and remember very well my days spent in Udhailiyah. Those were some of the best years of my life. I remember playing in Little League, hanging out at the Youth Center, and going to the pool all the time. All of us boys were also really big into BMX bikes. Those were the days.

I was in Udh from ’79 – ’86 and then Abq from ’86 – ’87. Good to see the web site and surprising as well. I remember the Darlings as I was in 7 & 8 grade with Dina. Remember Jerry Simeneaux as well. From memory I was the first English person at the Udh school along with my sister Melissa. I have very pleasant memories of Udh, Jebel climbing etc. Anyone else who was there at the time, in the good old days, leave a note.

Robert, I also was a friend of Melissa’s and have often wondered what happened to her. Can ya send me her address to say hey? If ya remember me (and even if ya don’t) drop a line. Maybe eventually we’ll find everyone from our big Udhailiyah family. By the way, by chance does anyone happen to know where Susan Kovalik is? The last I heard about her she was in Ohio. Laters!!

Adrienne, how did you manage to return to Saudi with the worst crude oil prices in decades? What does it look like these days? Send me addresses and e-mails. Hey UDH 1981 people, are you up for a 20 year reunion? I miss all of you wherever you all are. Saudi was a special time in all of our lives.

It’s nice to see some familiar names. I’m glad that the sight is popular. I too share fond memories of Saudi: the old 747; the rec hall; the swimming pool. I remember all of the friends that set a benchmark for my later years in high school in the states. I did keep in touch with a couple of people at first, but like most, things have changed and I’ve since become lost contact. If anyone from 1986 +/- a year or two reads this, please respond, my e-mail should be the same for a long time. Like some of you, I would love to go back and raise a family. Being in Saudi offered me more than I knew while I was there. I hope the best for you all.

I have NO IDEA how I will ever make it until May 2001!!! I am still looking for lost classmates (Dhahran & Udhailiyah)…Shannon Smith, the Eidsens, the Millers, Andy Christenson, Mike Hurst, Dan Meyers, Paul Sharpe, John Page…even if you have VAGUE or OLD information…you might be the link that brings old friends into the fold. Reuniting with old friends (even bullies LOL) has brought me immeasurable joy. Recapturing this part of our childhood has been fundamental in realizing who we are today. The songs (Der Kommisar, Mr Roboto)…the food (Teem cola, Lion bars)…the places we ventured (747…sneaking out/hiding from security)….the friendships that pick up as if no time has passed….we are truly blessed to have shared this glorious time in the sand. I hope to see all of you at the next reunion!!! Great job Craig!!! A terrific site!!! Best to you Kelly Curnutt **I ENCOURAGE any of you with ANY INFO to write—it’s always wonderful hearing from a brat****

Hello, Found this page after being an ARAMCO brat for about a month now. Anyway, my best memories of Saudi were all in Udhailiyah. I was living in Hoffuf before that. I have great memories of Udhailiyah and still dream about the flares in the desert and all the hills of sand. Most of all I remember the girl who really made a difference to my stay in Udhailiyah for around six months: Danielle Coastas. I still remember her after some 15 years. She’s the friendliest girl I’ve ever come across in my life. Just after we reached Udhailiyah, the Coastas’ had us over for dinner and from that time she had been a great help for me to get adjusted to the new place. I remember a few people who were mostly her friends, the last names of whom I unfortunately don’t remember: Natelle, Bryan Whitehead, Damon, et al.. My other special friend from Udhailiyah was Gordon, whose last name I forget again. He even gave me a sand rose when we left Udhailiyah. I would very much love to get in touch with these two people. I loved this site and reading the stuff here brings back a wave of fond memories. Keep the good work going… Esther Dasari Moodey

Hi all, I recently graduated from North Dakota State with a Civil Engineering degree, so now I’m living in Minneapolis and working as a Structural Engineer. If there are any former Udhailiyahans or others in the area, send me an email. Despite my love of Minnesota winters, I still miss the jebels surrounding Udhailiyah

The highlight of my life was beatin the drums to Eye of the Aramcon during the Carnival (Jebal Days was it called?) I never stopped playin. Nice to recall so many good times. Is it just me or does the rest of the world seem dismal compared to the Udhailiyah days?

Hello everyone. Only about four more months and it’s reunion time. I hope to see a lot of faces from our days in the desert. I’m glad to see new people signing our guestbook. I agree with you, Chad. There are times when the rest of the world seems dismal compared to our days in Saudi. Unless you have lived there, it’s hard to relate to our experiences. Take care and keep in touch.

I remember quite a few of you that have signed the guestbook. Wish I could make it to the reunion. It would be a blast! Maybe next year. I’m living in Louisiana now with my husband, 2 daughters, and 1 son. If you remember me, it would be great to hear from you.

Greetings to you people who have wandered so far…. I am currently working in Saudi now as an Electrical Engineer for Bechtel. It was good to read all those guestbook entries. It brought back a lot of memories. Here is a short story I wrote after my 3 week back in kingdom… Al-Rashid Super Modern Mall, Al-Khobar… There is something to be said about the conservation of culture. Some of the elements in the mall seemed out of place, namely the Saudis’ themselves. As I was standing in JCPennys, I was standing in ANY mall in the US. And when I sat down at Fuddrucker’s to eat my ribeye steak sandwich and fries, nothing was different, nothing out of place, nothing Arabian. When I commented to my co-worker who was eating with me about this void of significant culture, He just looked at me and replied while chewing… “If you think this is bad, you should see Hofuf! It’s totally different than it was back in the late 70′s” they tore up everythin’ and built up mcdonalds, KFC…..modern hotels…can’t even find the caves no more now…the old souk is gone the bedouin souk is gone…all those canals are fenced in and the camel market is gone too…….the fort is still there though….everythin’ is all new and paved over. — its a shame..”. I finished my meal without saying much more and thought how much longer will it be before every nuance of uniqueness is absorbed into the mundane. I don’t think I am going to the Al-Rashid Super Modern Mall anymore, I feel as though something from my childhood has been disturbed, those elements of wonder and imagination that existed as an experience that I have enjoyed remembering. – Regards…

What a great idea. All I have left from those times are memories and old yearbooks stashed away in storage somewhere. Seeing all the old pictures takes me back to a home that I can’t return to but have always remembered well. The crazy things we all did to cope with one television station, limited social activities – the jebels, day trips to Al Khobar and Querayah Beach (sp?)- and of course all my friends. I’ve thought of you often.

It seems mostly the kids, who aren’t kids anymore, have signed in to this site. Do you allow an “old lady” to sign here too??? lol. I didn’t graduate in Saudi as I am the parent. I worked in Housing, Bachelor Housing. I remember most of the kids that have posted messages here. It was good to see all the names again. It brought back many fond memories of the good and bad times in Saudi. I remember how we use to fly into Dhahran to go shopping for about 3 hours. It took all day to go just for such a short shopping time. Just as you got there, the prayer call came and you had to wait until that was over to shop. Remember the Wednesday night shrimp and prime rib dinners at the dining hall? Man we thought we had gone to a big restaurant to eat. They even brought out the white tablecloths and candles…lol. If any of you kids can tell me where your parents are, what is going on in their lives, I would appreciate it tremendously. The only person I keep up with from Saudi is Wanda Parker, she had Don and Dwayne. Don was killed a couple years ago in an automobile accident on prom night. Dewayne has a new baby. Hello to Melody and Gene Buecher, Betty and Earl Nelson, Linda and Ray Dunnam. Please email me at rdcamaroldy2000@netscape.net Hugs…Gloria Yates Keiss

Wow, lots of familiar names that I haven’t heard for a long while. Lots of jogged memories. I had totally forgotten about “jailbreak” tag – that certainly brought a smile to my face. 747 and “Stoner’s Peak” (or “Tower Jebel” as Mr. Cornwell preferred to call it!). Vince Vanoss a Submariner, how about that. I talked to Mr. Herring back in the summer of ’88, and he was under the impression that you were going to the Air Force Academy (wrong?). Blair and Chad: did I do in too many brain cells in my early 20s, or did we actually grad in ’85? :-). Blair, is your drum/hemp store on Commercial Drive? I currently live in Vancouver, Canada and work in the Mental Health field (my psych degree actually paid off!). I spend my time running up mountains, kayaking, and practicing jiu-jitsu. I hope you are all well.
